NGDC staff and student employees, often in conjunction with other Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) staff and National Cooperative Soil Survey (NCSS) cooperators, conduct a wide variety of projects and other activities to address specific NRCS and NCSS initiatives and needs. Projects generally are focused on business requirements and enhancements of the National Soils Information System, emerging soil survey technologies and methodologies, and improved delivery of soil survey information and data. NGDC also maintains an active external Research Program, partnering with scientists at universities around the country.
The Tablet Data Entry form is one component of PedonPC, developed as part of the Soil Resource Inventory Toolbox. PedonPC enables soil scientists to directly enter pedon descriptions in the field. Pedon descriptions are later uploaded to the National Soils Information System for archiving and use.
